The use of "thumbnail" images, like above,  greatly enhances the loading speed of your site.  Customers can then isolate the product they are interested in, and not have to wait for a large file to load.  Many people feel that subjecting them to long download times is showing a lack of respect for their time.  10 - 15 seconds is all most people will wait.
